WELCOME to VUTAM Type_As_You_Write.

 

AIM:                              

The aim of this site is to guide computer users of Windows & Linux platforms, to type Unicode Tamil, the way they learnt to write it, known as the VUTAM Type_As_You_Write way.

INTRODUCTION:

Facilities Of VUTAM:

1. VUTAM enables you to type Unicode Tamil, in the natural, Type_As_You_Write way.
2. Its keyboard layout is quite easy to remember, and hence makes Tamil typing a pleasure, rather than a chore, for those who know to write Tamil.
3. VUTAM Type_As_You_Write can be implemented in mechanical typewriters too, without any change,  with all its advantages.
 

STEP BY STEP:

1) To view and familiarise with VUTAM keyboard layout, please:
 Click Link: Layout.

2) To get a free Unicode Tamil font file, created using High-Logic's FCP and MS's VOLT, for optionaly copying in the Fonts folder of your machine, please:
 Click Link: UTAM.

3) For Windows, VUTAM revolves around KeyTransU. To download & install it, please:
 Click Link: Vutam3.

4) Proceed to install VUTAM in your machine, with UbuLinux, please:
 Click Link: UbuVutam.

NOTES:

a) VUTAM is spread in three baskets, like the European / International keyboard.
b) VUTAM uses a 'keyboard driver' based software and hence is versatile. More on this, later.
c) It will be 'simpler' to implement VUTAM, if the Unicode Consortium comprehends its advantages, over the present encoding 'scheme' of the Tamil Script. More on this, later.
